Halfway #solc24

When you are half way ‘there’, where ever there might be, a long distance run, a month long writing challenge, an extended period of study, parenting your teenager, getting to the half way mark comes with a sense of achievement because you got started, got out there and covered significant ground. Although you may not be at the end yet, there is cause for a punchy fist pump.

Half way there. Half way home. Half way to the goal. Half way to the finish line.

On average, most people my age are half way through their lives.

Having children has been such an act of looking forward. Planning, making, thinking, worrying for them, with them. Parenting feels like a lesson in moving towards a goal- an overarching goal of wanting my children to grow to be kind, well adjusted, well rounded adults. As I watch my daughter sing and dance her heart out at the middle school musical, I am slowly aware that we are half way there… she will be in High School in a few months and we are more than half way through her schooling journey together… she and I both, have covered significant ground.

I am silently fist pumping at her joy, her confidence and the growth in her self. She is slowly coming into her own and is learning to articulate who she is and what she believes in. We are halfway there and what an adventure its been.

  1. What gorgeous tribute to your daughter and her “halfway there” journey. I love how you started by reflecting on the challenge and then it evolved into a reflection on parenting.

  2. What a wonderful piece Nitasha. You have been an extraordinary mum… just as you were an extraordinary daughter! I go back in time and think…. Gosh how many half way theres were there… as you moved from one growing phase in your life to another… and we were fortunate and continue to be grateful for still being there! Always celebrating! ♥️♥️

  3. This post is a gift. Fits so well with the feeling of being over the hump and still aware of where you are in the journey. She did so amazingly well in the performance too. 🙂
